Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) Usage, Directions and Indication

• Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis; pneumonia; sexually transmitted diseases (STD); and infections of the ears, lungs, skin, and throat.
• Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) is used sometimes to treat H. pylori infection, early Lyme disease.
• Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) is sometimes used to prevent heart infection in patients having dental or other procedures and to prevent STD in victims of sexual assault. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this medication for your condition.
• In children, Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) is used to treat middle ear infection, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and strep throat.

Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) or similar meds such as erythromycin.
• Inform your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) may cause side effects like upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, and mild skin rash.
• If you experience other symptoms of side effects that will not go away, call your doctor immediately.
• You should not take antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after you take Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®), antacids make the tab less effective when taken at the same time.
• Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills therefore other forms of contraception may be required during the treatment period.

Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) Dosage and Administration

• Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) is usually taken with or without food once a day for 1-5 days.
• To help you remember to take, take Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) around the same time every day.
• Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
• Take Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) exactly as directed. Do not take more or less or take more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Important

• Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
• Take Azithromycin (Generic Zithromax®) for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated.
• Your prescription is probably not refillable. If you still have symptoms of infection after you finish the medication, call your doctor.
