Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This med lowers blood glucose (sugar) by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas gland. This is used with diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Ask your doctor about the safe use of alcoholic beverages, it may cause a decrease in blood sugar.

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Oral hypoglycemic drugs, including this, have been associated with increased cardiovascular mortality. All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome like dizziness; headache; nausea and weakness. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur ie; severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue). Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

Dosage and Administration

This is usually taken once a day. The tablet should be taken with breakfast or the first big meal of the day. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Your dose needs may change if you are ill, if you have a fever or infection, or if you have surgery or a medical emergency.

Important

It is important to take regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out completely. Continue taking if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
