Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

• Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia; bronchitis; venereal disease (VD); and prostate, skin, and urinary tract infections.
• Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) is also sometimes used to treat other types of infection, including infections of the bones and joints and of the stomach and intestines.
• Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) may also be used to treat or prevent anthrax or plague (serious infections that may be spread on purpose as part of a bioterror attack) in people who may have been exposed to the germs that cause these infections in the air.

Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• You should not take Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) if you are allergic to any its ingredients or to any other fluoroquinolone antibiotic like Ciprofloxacin.
• Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) should also be avoided if the patient is taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or an oral vaccine for typhoid.
• Certain meds may interact with Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) and patients are advised to discuss with their health care professional about any kind of medications that they are taking.
• Common to bothersome side effects of Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) are likely to include loss of appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, insomnia, sensitivity to sunlight, vomiting, nervousness, nausea or headaches.
• Do not drive a car or work on dangerous machines until you know how Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) will affect you.
• Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, diabetes, epilepsy, colitis, stomach problems, vision problems, heart disease, or history of stroke. Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) may make your skin sensitive to sunlight.

Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) Dosage and Administration

• Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) is usually taken with or without food every 12 hours (twice a day) for 3-10 days and should be taken exactly as directed.
• Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) for some infections may take up to 6 weeks or longer to show benefit.
• To treat VD, a single dose of Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) is taken.
• Do not take Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
• Do not take a double dose of Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) to make up for a missed one.
• Drink at least eight full glasses of water or other liquid every day while you are on Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®).

Important

• Continue Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) even if you feel well.
• Do not stop Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) without talking to your doctor.
• If you stop taking Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) too soon or if you skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
• Antibiotic like Ofloxacin (Generic Floxin®) will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
