Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

• Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) is used for infections of the urinary tract.
• Inform your doctor your medical history and all the medications you are currently on and have previously taken.
• If you have diabetes, use Clinistix or Tes-Tape instead of Clinitest to test your urine for sugar.
• Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) can cause Clinitest to show false results.


Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately like difficulty breathing, excessive tiredness, fever or chills, chest pain and persistent cough. If you feel you have experienced Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) allergic reaction, stop using Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
• Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients.
• Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.
• Your urine may turn dark yellow or brown; but this effect is harmless.
• Remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®). Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) affects you.
• Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) is not recommended for patients during pregnancy or by nursing mothers.

Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) Dosage and Administration

• The usual dose of Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) is 100mg taken two or four times a day for at least 7 days. Take Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) with a full glass of water and with meals.
• Do not take Nitrofurantoin (Generic Macrodantin®) more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
