Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

• Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) is used to prevent difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing and coughing caused by asthma.
• Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) is also used to prevent bronchospasm (breathing difficulties) during exercise, used to treat the symptoms of seasonal (occurs only at certain times of the year), and perennial (occurs all year round) allergic rhinitis (a condition associated with sneezing and stuffy, runny or itchy nose).
• If you are taking Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) to treat asthma, continue taking or use all other medications that your doctor has prescribed to treat your asthma.

Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) has been generally well tolerated.
• Side effects of Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) include hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis, angioedema, pruritus, and urticaria and very rarely hepatic eosinophilic infiltration), dream abnormalities, drowsiness, irritability, and restlessness which usually were mild, generally did not require discontinuation of therapy.
• Notify your doctor if any undesirable effects are experienced while taking Montelukast (Generic Singulair®).
• Inform your doctor your medical history and all the medications you are currently on and have previously taken.
• Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) is not recommended to be taken by patients during pregnancy or by nursing mothers.
• Do not use Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) to treat a sudden attack of asthma symptoms. Your doctor will prescribe a short-acting inhaler to use during attacks.
• If your asthma symptoms get worse or if you have asthma attacks more often, be sure to call your doctor.

Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) Dosage and Administration

• Adult 15years and above: Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) 10mg
• Children 6-14yrs: Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) 5mg chewable
• 2-5yrs: Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) 4mg chewable or 4mg
• All Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) doses are usually taken once a day with or without food.
• When Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) is used to treat asthma, Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) should be taken in the evening,
• When Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) is used to prevent breathing difficulties during exercise, it should be taken at least 2 hours before exercise.
• If you are taking Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) once a day on a regular basis, you should not take an additional dose before exercising.
• When Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) is used to treat allergic rhinitis, it may be taken at any time of day.
• Take Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) at around the same time every day and take exactly as directed.
• Do not take Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) Important

• Do not stop or change the doses of Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) unless your doctor tells you that you should.
• Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) controls the symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis but does not cure these conditions.
• Continue Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) even if you feel well. Do not stop Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) without talking to your doctor.
• If you are taking Montelukast (Generic Singulair®) to treat asthma, continue taking or use all other medications that your doctor has prescribed to treat your asthma.
