• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) is used to treat certain types of infections, including infections of the urinary tract and prostate (a male reproductive gland).
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) is also sometimes used to treat certain infections of the stomach and intestines.
Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) may cause side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, stomach cramps, headache and weakness. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
• Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any symptoms, section, stop taking Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) and call your doctor immediately.
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) may cause problems with bones, joints, and tissues around joints in children.
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) should not be given to children younger than 18 years of age.
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.
• Taking Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) increases the risk that you will develop tendinitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or have a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) during your treatment or for up to several months afterward. These problems may affect tendons in your shoulder, your hand, the back of your ankle, or in other parts of your body. Tendinitis or tendon rupture may happen to people of any age, but the risk is highest in people over 60 years of age.
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) may increase nervousness, sleeplessness, heart pounding, and anxiety caused by caffeine.
• Make sure you drink plenty of water or other fluids every day while you are taking Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®).
• You should begin to feel better during the first few days of your treatment with Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®).
• If your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse, call your doctor.
Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) Dosage and Administration
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) comes as a 100mg, 200mg and 400mg tablet to be taken by mouth.
• Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) is usually taken twice a day for 3 to 28 days.
• The length of treatment with Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) depends on the type of infection being treated.
• Your doctor will tell you how long to take Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®).
• Take Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) at around the same time every day and try to space your doses 12 hours apart.
• Follow the directions carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not understand.
• Take Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) exactly as directed.
• Do not take Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
• Take Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals or after drinking milk or eating dairy products.
• Swallow Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) tablets with a full glass of water.
• Do not drink or eat a lot of caffeine-containing products as coffee, tea, energy drinks, cola, or chocolate.
• Take Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better.
Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) Important
• Continue Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) even if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
• Antibiotic like Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
• Do not stop Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) unless you experience the symptoms of tendinitis or tendon rupture or the symptoms of allergic reaction.
• If you stop Norfloxacin (Generic Noroxin®) too soon or if you skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.
