• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH, enlargement of the prostate gland).
• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®)) improves symptoms of BPH such as frequent and difficult urination and may reduce the chance of acute urinary retention (suddenly being unable to pass urine).
• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) is also used to reduce hair loss due to male pattern baldness.
• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) is only for use in men. Women or children must not take.

Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• Like any medicine, Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) may have unintended or unwanted effects. These are uncommon and do not affect most men.
• Some men may notice changes in their sex lives and may have a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex with Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®).
• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) does not appear to interfere with normal sexual function. In some men, such side effects disappear with time, even if treatment is continued.
• In rare cases, some men have reported breast swelling and/ or tenderness, or allergic reactions to Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®), such as lip swelling and rash.
• If you experience these or any other unusual symptoms, go and see your doctor promptly.
• Women who are or who may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken tablets. This is known to cause birth defects in a developing male baby.

Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) Dosage and Administration

• Depending on your dosage needs both Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) 5mg and 1mg can be taken daily to treat BPH (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy) and Male-Pattern Baldness.
• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) can be taken with or without food with a full glass of water.
• Take Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) at around the same time every day.

Important

• If you are taking Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) to treat male pattern hair loss, you should know that finasteride controls hair loss, but does not cure it. It may take at least 3 months before you see any benefit.
• If you are taking Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) to treat BPH, you should know that Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) controls your condition, but does not cure it. It may take at least 6 months before your symptoms improve.
• It is important to take Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) regularly to get the most benefit.
• Continue Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) even if you feel well and do not stop taking without talking to your doctor.
• Finasteride (Generic Proscar®, Generic Propecia®) works best when taken long term.
