Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia (a mental illness that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions) in adults and teenagers 13 years of age and older.
• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) is used to treat episodes of mania (frenzied, abnormally excited, or irritated mood) or mixed episodes (symptoms of mania and depression that happen together) in adults and in teenagers and children 10 years of age and older with bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder; a disease that causes episodes of depression, episodes of mania, and other abnormal moods).
• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) is also used to treat behavior problems such as aggression, self-injury, and sudden mood changes in teenagers and children 5-16 years of age who have autism (a condition that causes repetitive behavior, difficulty interacting with others, and problems with communication).

• Older adults with dementia may also have a greater chance of having a stroke or mini-stroke during treatment.
• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) may cause children to gain more weight than expected and for boys and male adolescents to have an increase in the size of their breasts.
• You should know that Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting when you get up too quickly from a lying position.
• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) is more common when you first start.
• Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) affects you.
• Tell your doctor your medical history and all the medications you are currently on and have had previously taken.

Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) Dosage and Administration

• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) is usually taken once or twice a day with or without food. Most patients will benefit from daily doses of 4-6mg.
• Take Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) at around the same time(s) every day and take this exactly as directed.
• Do not take Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) may help control your symptoms but will not cure your condition.
• Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) may take several weeks or longer before you feel the full benefit.
• Continue to take Risperidone (Generic Risperdal®) even if you feel well not unless your doctor says otherwise.
