Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

• Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid.
• Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
• And Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) may also be given together with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcer caused by infection with helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) or any other medications.
• Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist your medical history, the other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.
• Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• Other less serious side effects of Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) are more likely to occur, such as: stomach pain, gas, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; or headache.

Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) Dosage and Administration

• Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) comes in plain capsules and as a sustained-release (long-acting) capsule.
• Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) is usually taken once a day before a meal.
• When Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) is taken in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) is taken once a day or twice a day (every 12 hours) for 10 to 14 days.
• Do not crush, chew, or break Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) tablet.
• Swallow the pill whole, do not crush, break, or open a delayed-release capsule as Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body.

Important

• Do not take Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms.
• It may take Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) 1 to 4 days for you to feel the full benefit. Call your doctor if your symptoms get worse or do not improve after 14 days or if your symptoms return sooner than 4 months after you finish your treatment with Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®).
• Do not take Omeprazole (Generic Prilosec®) longer than 14 days or more often than once every 4 months without talking to your doctor.
