Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions
This is used in the treatment of dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention atazanavir (Reyataz); anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin); antifungals such as ketoconazole (Nizoral) and voriconazole (Vfend); digoxin (Digitek, Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin); and iron supplements. Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, gas, decreased appetite, constipation, dry mouth, and abdominal pain. More severe side effects are severe allergic reactions, chest pain, dark urine, fast heartbeat, fever, persistent sore throat, severe stomach pain, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual tiredness, and yellowing of the eyes or skin.
Dosage and Administration
This is available as 20mg and 40 mg tablets and are usually taken once a day at least 1 hour before a meal. When this is used to treat some conditions in which the stomach makes too much acid, it is taken twice a day. Take it at around the same time(s) every day and exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Important
It may take several weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit. Call your doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve during this time. Continue to take it even if you feel well. Do not stop taking without talking to your doctor.
