Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. This is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid. This is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid). And this may also be given together with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcer caused by infection with helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist your medical history, what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Other less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as: stomach pain, gas, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; or headache.

Dosage and Administration

This comes in plain capsules and as a sustained-release (long-acting) capsule. This is usually taken once a day before a meal. When taken in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, this is taken once a day or twice a day (every 12 hours) for 10 to 14 days. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. Swallow the pill whole, do not crush, break, or open a delayed-release capsule. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body.

Important

Do not take for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms. It may take 1 to 4 days for you to feel the full benefit. Call your doctor if your symptoms get worse or do not improve after 14 days or if your symptoms return sooner than 4 months after you finish your treatment. Do not take longer than 14 days or more often than once every 4 months without talking to your doctor.
