Administration
• Valacyclovir (Generic Valtrex) can be taken with water, with or without food.
• Take Valacyclovir (Generic Valtrex®) at around the same time every day and take exactly as directed.

Recommended dosage of Valacyclovir (Generic Valtrex):

• For Chicken Pox
Valacyclovir 5000mg twice a day for 5 days as directed

• For Herpes Simplex Labialis
Valacyclovir 1000mg x 2 as a single dose every 12 hours for a total of 2 doses (4 g)

• For Herpes Simplex -- Mucocutaneous/ Immunocompetent Host / For Genital herpes
First episode: Valacyclovir 1000mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days as directed
Recurrent episode: Valacyclovir 500 mg orally twice a day for 3 days as directed

• For Herpes Simplex -- Suppression
Chronic suppression of recurrent genital herpes: Valacyclovir 1000mg once a day as directed
HIV-infected host with CD4 count 100 cells/mm3 or more: Valacyclovir 500 mg orally twice a day as directed

• For Herpes Zoster
Valacyclovir 1000mg every 8 hours for 7 days as directed

Important Things to Remember when taking Valacyclovir (Generic Valtrex) 500mg, 1000mg (1g)

• Valacyclovir (Generic Valtrex) will not prevent the spread of genital herpes to other people, proper prevention such as use of condom is necessary during sexual activities.

• Take Valacyclovir (Generic Valtrex) until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better.

• If you stop too soon or skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated or may become more difficult to treat. Valacyclovir therapy should be started at the first sign of a genital herpes episode. The efficacy has not been established if started more than 24 hours after onset of signs and symptoms.
