Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is used with other drugs in the treatment of some types of seizures and for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain caused by the herpes virus or shingles). This relieves the pain of PHN (postherpetic neuralgia) by changing the way the body senses pain. This is also sometimes used to relieve the pain of diabetic neuropathy (numbness or tingling due to nerve damage in people who have diabetes), and to treat and prevent hot flashes (sudden strong feelings of heat and sweating) in women who are being treated for breast cancer or who have experienced menopause ('change of life', the end of monthly menstrual periods).

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Stop taking and seek medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) dizziness, poor coordination, or drowsiness; blurred or double vision; irregular back-and- forth movements of the eyes; nausea and vomiting; or tremor. This may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid alcohol; this may increase the risk of having side effects. Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, especially kidney, liver, or heart disease.

Dosage and Administration

This may be taken with or without food. Take at evenly spaced times throughout the day and night; do not let more than 12 hours pass between doses.

Important

If you are taking this for seizures, do not stop taking even if you feel better. It is important to continue to prevent seizures from recurring.
