Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

• Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) is used with other meds in the treatment of some types of seizures and for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain caused by the herpes virus or shingles).
• Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) relieves the pain of PHN (postherpetic neuralgia) by changing the way the body senses pain.
• Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) is also sometimes used to relieve the pain of diabetic neuropathy (numbness or tingling due to nerve damage in people who have diabetes)
• Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) is also used to treat and prevent hot flashes (sudden strong feelings of heat and sweating) in women who are being treated for breast cancer or who have experienced menopause ('change of life', the end of monthly menstrual periods).


Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

• Stop taking Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) and seek medical attention or contact your doctor immediately if you experience allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) dizziness, poor coordination, or drowsiness; blurred or double vision; irregular back-and- forth movements of the eyes; nausea and vomiting; or tremor.
• Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
• Avoid alcohol; Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) may increase the risk of having side effects.
• Before taking Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®), tell your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, especially kidney, liver, or heart disease.


Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) Dosage and Administration

• Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) may be taken with or without food.
• Take Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) at evenly spaced times throughout the day and night.
• Do not let more than 12 hours pass between Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) doses.


Important

• If you are taking Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) for seizures, do not stop taking even if you feel better.
• It is important to continue Gabapentin (Generic Neurontin®) to prevent seizures from recurring.
