Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is used to prevent blood clots after a recent heart attack or stroke or who have peripheral artery disease (P.A.D.) poor circulation in the legs that may cause pain during exercise, such as walking, and may be relieved by rest and in people with certain disorders of the heart or blood vessels. This is also sometimes used to prevent blood clots in people with mitral valve disease (a condition that affects the valve that separates the left upper and lower chambers of the heart) prosthetic (artificial) heart valves, and people undergoing certain heart procedures such as coronary artery stent placement.

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist your medical history, what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Contact your doctor or seek emergency medical attention if you have bleeding that will not stop. You may also have bleeding on the inside of your body, such as in your stomach or intestines. Call your doctor at once if you have black or bloody stools or if you cough up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. These could be signs of bleeding in your digestive tract. Avoid drinking alcohol; this may increase your risk of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Dosage and Administration

This is usually taken once a day with or without food. To help you remember to take, take it around the same time every day and take it exactly as directed. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Important

This will help prevent heart attacks and strokes only as long as you take the medication. Continue even if you feel well and don’t stop without talking to your doctor.
