Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions This is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. It also is used to prevent angina (chest pain) and to treat heart attacks. Extended-release (long-acting) also is used in combination with other medications to treat heart failure. To be sure this medication is helping your condition; your blood pressure will need to be checked on a regular basis. It is important that you not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.
Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Dosage and Administration This is usually taken once or twice a day with meals or immediately after meals. The extended-release tablet is usually taken once a day.
Important Do not stop taking without talking to your doctor. Suddenly stopping may cause chest pain or heart attack. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually. This med control high blood pressure and angina but does not cure them. Extended-release controls heart failure but does not cure it. It may take a few weeks before you feel the full benefit.
