About Sildenafil Citrate

Sildenafil (Generic Viagra®) is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. This treats erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increased blood flow can cause an erection and also treats PAH by relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs to allow blood to flow easily. The Food and Drug Administration announced the approval of Viagra (sildenafil citrate), the first oral pill to treat impotence, a dysfunction that affects millions of men in the United States March 1998.

Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence; inability to get or keep an erection) in men and is used to improve the ability to exercise in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; high blood pressure in the vessels carrying blood to the lungs, causing shortness of breath, dizziness, and tiredness).

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

If you become dizzy or nauseated, or have pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw during sexual activity, stop and call your doctor right away. You could be having a serious side effect of. Stop using this and get emergency medical help if you have sudden vision loss. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Sexual activity may be a strain on your heart, especially if you have heart disease. If you experience chest pain, dizziness, or nausea during sexual activity, call your doctor immediately and avoid sexual activity until your doctor tells you otherwise. Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects.

Dosage and Administration

Gel Sachets are designed to be dissolved in the mouth, not swallowed. The effect is quicker than with normal tablets, usually within 15 minutes.
Tablets. If you are taking this to treat erectile dysfunction, take it as needed before sexual activity. The best time to take is about 1 hour before sexual activity, but you can take this any time from 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity.
If to treat PAH, you will probably take three times a day with or without food. Take this at around the same times every day, and space your doses about 4 to 6 hours apart.

Important

This can help you have an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. An erection will not occur just by taking a pill or gel. Follow your doctor's instructions. If you are taking this for PAH, you should know that this controls PAH but does not cure it. Continue even if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
