Levothyroxine (Generic Synthroid®) is a synthetic (man-made) version of the principle thyroid hormone, thyroxine (T4) that is mainly used in cases where the thyroid gland of the patient cannot produce the sufficient quantities of hormone the human body requires. Without this hormone, the body cannot function properly, resulting in poor growth, slow speech, and lack of energy, weight gain, hair loss, dry thick skin, and increased sensitivity to cold. Generic and branded tablets may differ in the amount they contain, the absorption into the body, and the distribution of throughout the body. This means that ingestion of 1 mg of the generic may not have the same effect on the body as 1 mg of another generic or branded.

Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is mainly prescribed for the treatment of patients suffering from thyroid hormone insufficiency, patients with unusual enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter) or patients with thyroid cancer. Make sure your doctor is aware of all your medical problems, especially heart disease, clotting disorders, diabetes, and disorders of the adrenal or pituitary glands. Thyroid hormone should not be used to treat obesity in patients with normal thyroid function.


Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Side effects, other than overdose symptoms, are rare. People who are treated with it may initially lose some hair, but this effect is usually temporary. You may have an allergic reaction such as a rash or hives. You should not be treated with this if you are hypersensitive to thyroid hormone; your thyroid gland is making too much thyroid hormone; you have had a recent heart attack; or your adrenal glands are not making enough corticosteroid hormone.


Dosage and Administration

This usually is taken once a day on an empty stomach, one half to one hour before breakfast. If you are giving this to an infant or child who cannot swallow the tablet, crush the tablet and mix it in 1 to 2 teaspoons of plain water. Give this mixture by spoon or dropper right away. Do not store this mixture. Only mix the crushed tablets with water. Do not mix with food or soybean infant formula.

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.

I had told you earlier that I was frequently experiencing no effect from the oral Tadalafil purchased from you. I am a 42 year old male in excellent health, exercise 6 days per week, and maintain a low bodyfat, cholesterol, and eat well and take vitamins.

This may be my own personal stomach enzymes, but after experimenting & noting dosages and times, I have come to the following conclusion: taken immediately after a light meal, the oral Tadalafil's bioavailability is increased *immensely* - 10mg produces a prounounced effect within 1.5 to 2 hours. On the other hand, again in my body, 20mg taken on an empty stomach with water and/or diet soda, in my system there is no noticeable effect, even when taken with grapefruit juice (enhances oral bioavailability of certain pharmaceuticals).
