Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is used to treat conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, including ulcers, gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production. This is used in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, the bacteria that cause ulcers. There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activity while taking this, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist your medical history, what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. The most common side effect possibly related to this is headache. Stop taking it and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives. Symptom relief does not rule out other serious stomach conditions. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

Dosage and Administration

Dosage depends upon the severity of the problem. It is usually taken once a day for 4 to 8 weeks, but it is sometimes taken for a longer time. When taken for ulcers, it should be taken after the morning meal with a full glass of water. When taken in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, this is taken twice a day, with the morning and evening meals, for 7 days. Take it exactly as directed.

Important

Do not stop taking even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may improve before your condition is fully treated.
