Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is used with a diet and exercise program and sometimes with other medications, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). This should not be used in children younger than 18 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. You may experience hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) if you are taking this medication in combination with other medications used to treat diabetes. To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your liver function may also need to be tested, and you may need regular eye exams. This may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while you are taking this medication. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking it. Alcohol lowers blood sugar and may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia while you are taking this medicine.

Dosage and Administration

It is usually taken once daily with or without meals. Take this at around the same time every day and take it exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Important

It is important to use regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out completely. This control type 2 diabetes but do not cure it. It may take 2 weeks for your blood sugar to decrease and several weeks longer for you to feel the full effect. Continue taking even if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
