Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions

This is used to treat severe recalcitrant nodular acne (a certain type of severe acne) that has not been helped by other treatments, such as antibiotics. This has been used to treat certain other skin conditions and some types of cancer. This is given to people when their previous treatments for acne have not been successful. It also stops the formation of blackheads or whiteheads. This also reduces the size of the sebaceous glands and the inflammation that occurs with acne. You should avoid using tanning beds or lamps while you are using this. You must not use this if your skin is sunburnt.

Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning

This can cause your skin to become more sensitive to all forms of UV light. While you are using this, it is important to protect the skin from the effects of UV light. You should try reducing the time you are exposed to direct sunlight. Areas which have been treated should not be exposed to the sun and should be covered with appropriate clothing or a high protection sun screen. This may make the skin all over your body more fragile or sensitive. Your skin may be more easily damaged during treatment and for some time after treatment has stopped. It may cause the bones to stop growing too soon in teenagers. This may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication. If you feel unwell or if you have concerns about a side-effect, you will need to seek advice. If you feel very ill, get medical help straight away.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended dose is 0.5 to 2 mg per kg of body weight daily. The daily dose usually is administered in two divided doses for 15-20 weeks. This should be taken with food in order to improve its absorption. Take it exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Any concerns, contact your doctor.

Important

Treatment can only be started in a woman once the prescriber is certain that the woman is not pregnant. It may take several weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit. Your acne may get worse during the beginning; this is normal and does not mean that the medication is not working.
