It is also sometimes used to improve survival after bypass surgery, to reduce ulcer relapses, and to prevent rejection of kidney transplants.
Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to tell your doctor and pharmacist your medical history, what other prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor at once if you have any signs of skin rash, no matter how mild. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can make your condition worse. This can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Dosage and Administration
It is usually taken once or twice a day, preferably after a meal. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Do not take in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.
Important
It may take several months or longer before you feel the full benefit. This may increase the number of gout attacks during the first few months that you take it, although it will eventually prevent attacks. Continue taking even if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
